Origin of Aids

Since first being broadcast in 2003 the Origins Of Aids has yet to be aired on UK television. Despite winning many awards and being hotly debated the reason is more than likely connected to the barrage of legal assaults made on Channel 4 by Dr Koprowski, who it is theorized caused the Aids epidemic during 1950s trials of an experimental polio vaccine in Africa.

Barack Obama 'Road to the White House'

On November 5th, 2008, Barack Obama became the first African American President of the United States, but the journey began months before he announced his intent to run for the nation's highest political office.

The story started when a little known Senator from the State of Illinois came to speak at the California African American Museum, which was hosting an Urban Issues Forum back on Oct. 27, 2006. The gifted orator spoke with such elegance and grace that there was a sense that Sen. Barack Obama was destined for greater things.

The film Barack Obama ´Road to the White House¡ chronicles the two-and-a-half-year period between that fateful day back in October 2006 to that historic day on January 20th 2009, when the entire world witnessed an unprecedented feat, the inauguration of our country's 44th president, the first of African descent and one of only three sitting U.S. presidents to be awarded a a Nobel Peace Prize. The documentary film follows Obama's journey from his time in California to his swearing-in ceremony on the steps of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington D.C.

Independent filmmaker Keith O'Derek spent three and a half days driving from Los Angeles, California to Washington D.C. to attend the ceremony. During his journey, he slept in his SUV and in bus stations, filming and interviewing average people from all walks of life on what they thought about the incoming President.

In addition to some of the people who knew him personally, the documentary features in-depth interviews with high-profile politicians, celebrities and businessmen from around the Country who weigh in about the new President, as well as issues about race and the economy among other things. Never before has the nation and the world been so intrigued by such an influential leader. Whether one agrees or disagrees with his politics, he has indeed fostered change just by his mere presence in the White House.

´Road to the White House¡ is the first movie of kind to be told by the candor and honesty of the American people and what they think about their elected leader. In addition, Academy Award-winning actor and humanitarian Louis Gossett Jr. lends his prolific voice and support to the film by providing voice-over to the theatrical trailer that is coming soon. He is also among the featured high-powered celebrities to offer insight as to how Obama is performing as the Head of State. He also reflects upon the America?s history of racial injustice and its progress.

The consensus of President Barack Obama is that he brings hope to so many who have so little. ´Road to the White House¡ is not told with any political slant or ideology, but with the straightforwardness of so many who have grown frustrated with the partisan politics in Washington D.C. over the course of the last eight years. It's not about the Republican or the Democratic point of view, it's about the American point of view, and it was done out of a labor of love, sweat and tears.

I have a great idea for a short documentary if someone wants to take it on. Cardinal Gibbons high school in Baltimore is to be closed in June. It sits on the grounds of St. Mary's Industrial School where Babe Ruth grew up (for 12 years), and where he learned to play baseball from his beloved Brother Matthias. We are afraid this piece of valuable baseball history will be lost because the Archdiocese will be selling the property. If interested e-mail harboat@aol.com. Two buildings remain and the fields where Babe played. NYTimes article from last Sunday 4/19/10 http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/18/sports/baseball/18rut h.html?hp

This free film training is specifically for unemployed people aged 16 to 25 years old who want to have their say about their situation and put the case for more jobs and less spin. For example young people are told they are 'guaranteed' a job or training if they are unemployed for over 6 months but one young WORLDbytes volunteer is already producing a report which reveals the jobs and training on offer are a far cry from young people's aspirations. Want to help find out more? Do you have a story to tell? Do you think we should demand more jobs? If so join WORLDbytes’ three-day Train & Shoot on Saturday 8th, Sunday 9th and Monday 10th May. Successful applicants will learn to film and shoot for a series of hard hitting reports about youth unemployment and the benefit system. The training involves long days learning camera, lighting, sound, production and hands on shooting. Priority places for this free training will be given to volunteers who are already active, so don't wait around. Get stuck in and we look forward to seeing you at a volunteer introductory evening. Places are limited so book now to avoid disappointment by applying online at http://www.worldbytes.org/training-booking.html. For more information, email world.write@btconnect.com or call 020 8985 5435.

This week we will like to share 'Shame' a film by Sharjil Baloch

Click to watch free online at “Humanity Explored” online film festival:
http://www.cultureunplugged.com/play/800/Shame

Synopsis: "Shame" is part of the honor killing awareness-raising campaign in rural Sindh and southern Punjab. The directors take to the road, documenting shocking interviews that uncover a deep-rooted gender bias in rural Pakistan as well as the first ever footage of a karion jo qabristan, an unmarked graveyard where victims of honor killing are buried without any ritual. On November 11, 2009, I ordered and payed for the documentary by Massimo Mazzucco titled "The New American Century" and have yet to receive the item. I've written to them on several occasions to which they respond with what seems to be an automated response i.e., "administration is processing your order." Has anyone else experienced this delay in delivery. Is this a credible company?

RESPONSE: This is total BS, I do not sell any DVDs or deliver any content via the post, this is a strictly online streaming service only.

WIN FUNDING FOR YOUR FEATURE FILM

Join a group of international filmmakers who have risen through the ranks in rounds of competition to get the boost they needed to the next rung in their career. Pierre-Olivier Thevenin was spotted in our Feature Film Competition and hired to direct his first feature film, Humains (co-produced by Filmaka). Luis Bernal Salazar submitted a short which became the Webby-Award-winning original series The Ten Commandments of La Vida Loca.

NEXT TO LAST ROUND FOR 2008-2009 FEATURE FILM COMPETITION

In addition to other opportunities on our site, one director each year is chosen as our FEATURE FILM COMPETITION Grand Prize Winner and offered the chance for Filmaka founder Deepak Nayar to produce their feature script with him or her at the helm. How do you get there? Process of elimination.

Every month, from over 100 submissions, 10 Peer to Peer Winners and 5 to 10 Filmaka Selections are chosen as Entry Level Winners. Each gets $500 and the opportunity to make another film - a Jury Level submission - for which they will receive $1000 funding. The Jury Level films are judged by our FILMAKA JURY of world-class film professionals. Three Jury Level Winners are chosen from each theme, and at the end of the year, all Jury Winners compete in the final showdown.

Are you ready for the beginning of the end? Here it is...

RACE AGAINST THE CLOCK
http://www.filmaka.com/competition.php

As we rapidly come to a close, not only you, but the characters in your film are going to be in a Race Against the Clock. You decide why and who is in such a hurry, and whether the outcome is funny or tragic. Whatever your story - DON'T BE LATE!

Your drop-dead due date is SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, AT 24:00 HOURS. Be sure to read and follow the DELIVERY RULES and TERMS AND CONDITIONS before you submit.

Now go burn some midnight oil. Or another, more renewable resource.

We are big fans of Adam Curtis, in his latest montage of images, sound, music and history, we are delighted with a beautiful experiment in art documentary, almost a new form of delivery. However, despite the wonders of the films art Curtis down plays significant historical events to a degree leaving ambiguous messages of these events. For a detailed rebuttal of these see the comments. Nevertheless a wonderful new and fresh form of art documentary.
